Shepherds Pie

  • 1 Large Skillet
  • 1 Spatula or Wooden Spoon
  • 1 cutting board

  • 1 Pot If you're making mashed potatoes from scratch, you'll need a pot to boil and cook the potatoes.
  • 1 Masher or Potato Ricer For mashing the cooked potatoes to make mashed potatoes.
  • 1 Oven-Safe Skillet or Baking Dish
  • 2 Oven Mitts
  • 1 Cheese Grater optional

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 carrots diced
  • 1 cups frozen peas
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared in advance)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • fresh parsley Chopped (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Cook Beef Mixture: In a large oven-safe skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add diced carrots and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Stir in frozen peas, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
  • Top with Mashed Potatoes: Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the beef mixture in the skillet, creating a smooth layer.
  • Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
  • Bake: Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges are slightly golden.
  • Serve: Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious skillet shepherd's pie!
