Equipment

  • 1 Skillet
  • 1 Wooden Spoon To stir and sauté the ingredients in the skillet.
  • 1 Spatula To stir and sauté the ingredients in the skillet.
  • 1 Baking Sheet To bake the beef braids in the oven.
  • 1 Parchment Paper or Silicone Baking Mat To line the baking sheet and prevent sticking
  • 1 Rolling Pin For rolling out the puff pastry dough
  • 1 Knife or Pizza Cutter To cut the puff pastry into rectangles
  • 1 Pastry Brush For applying the egg wash on top of the beef braids before baking

Ingredients

  • 1 pound grass-fed beef
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 sheet puff pastry Any brand I recommend Pillsbury, thawed
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Prepare Filling: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add thinly sliced grass-fed beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Season with dried thyme, dried rosemary, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Assemble Braids: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into equal-sized rectangles. Spoon the beef mixture onto one half of each pastry rectangle, leaving a border around the edges. Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling to create a braid shape. Press the edges to seal and crimp with a fork.
  • Brush with Egg Wash: Place the beef braids onto the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops of the braids with beaten egg to give them a golden finish.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  • Serve: Remove the beef braids from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your delicious homemade beef braids!
